๐Ÿงฎ Calc tab

Model what a validator earns at a given stake, commission and cost structure.

The Calc tab is a validator profit model. Enter a stake, commission and costs, and it estimates yearly net profit in SOL and US dollars. Use it to test a commission change before you make it, find your break-even stake, or size up a new validator before you run one (Figure 16.7).

Inputs

Start from a preset. Defaults loads a standard set of starting values. The second option, named after the validator you are viewing, loads its real numbers. Then adjust any field:

  • Active stake (SOL) and commission (%).
  • Inflation schedule: today's inflation rate, with a choice between the current schedule (15% disinflation per year) and SIMD-0550 (30% per year). The app shows the average rate for the next three years. Profit uses the first year.
  • Block rewards per block and MEV tips per block (SOL), and your MEV commission (%).
  • Leader slots per epoch: worked out from your stake.
  • Vote cost per epoch (SOL) and server cost per month (USD).
  • SOL price (USD).

The result

Yearly shows your SOL net profit per year and its value in US dollars, broken down into:

  • Revenue: commission from inflation rewards, block rewards and MEV.
  • Costs: voting and server costs.

The result assumes a slot time, which the app shows under the result.

The Calc tab is a projection from the numbers you enter, not a promise of future earnings. Inflation, fees, MEV, SOL price and your stake all change over time.
