๐ท๏ธ Community roles
Learn how community roles are earned or assigned and what they unlock in The Vault.
Roles in The Vault Discord recognize your activity, squad membership, contributions and responsibilities. This page explains the public roles used by the community bots, including the ranks you earn through XP and the roles you receive through participation or selection.

XP ranks
Earn XP through eligible chat activity, events and other community rewards. Use /rank to check your level and progress. The bot gives you the highest XP rank you qualify for, replacing the previous XP rank when you reach a new milestone.
The six XP ranks are:
| Role | Required level | What it unlocks |
|---|---|---|
| Private | 1 | Your first XP rank and eligibility for Private supply drops. |
| Private First Class | 10 | Private First Class supply drops. Level 10 also unlocks community proposal submissions and artwork submissions. |
| Corporal | 20 | Corporal supply drops and recognition of your progress. |
| Sergeant | 30 | Sergeant supply drops and recognition of your progress. |
| Master Sergeant | 40 | Master Sergeant supply drops and recognition of your progress. |
| Lieutenant | 50 | The highest named XP rank. Level 50 unlocks the crystal system, where eligible surplus XP can be exchanged for crystals. |
All six ranks can participate in daily payroll when they meet its activity requirements. A higher XP rank does not increase the daily payroll amount. Supply drops use the eligible roles shown on each announcement; some also include higher ranks and other qualifying roles.
Squad membership
Squads give you a team, a dedicated community channel and shared activities. These roles are separate from your XP rank, so you can hold both at the same time (Figure 19.1).

Figure 19.1: Squad membership and shared achievements
The current squad and recruitment roles are:
| Role | How you receive it | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Nomads | Normally assigned when you reach level 10 without a squad, or when you leave a squad with /abandon. | Places you in the recruitment pool so Captains and Commanders can invite you to their squads. Eligible Nomads can also propose a new squad with /charter. |
| Black Panthers | Accept an invitation from the squad's Captain or Commander. | Identifies your squad for its channel, team activities, leaderboards and shared Castle upgrades. |
| Ghost Howlers | Accept an invitation from the squad's Captain or Commander. | Identifies your squad for its channel, team activities, leaderboards and shared Castle upgrades. |
| Dragon Alliance | Accept an invitation from the squad's Captain or Commander. | Identifies your squad for its channel, team activities, leaderboards and shared Castle upgrades. |
| Iron Wolves | Accept an invitation from the squad's Captain or Commander. | Identifies your squad for its channel, team activities, leaderboards and shared Castle upgrades. |
| Lone Wolf | Choose Opt-out on a recruitment invitation. | Removes you from the Nomads recruitment pool and stops squad invitations. Use /abandon if you later want to return to Nomads. |
| Active Duty | Hold enough raffle tickets to meet your squad's weekly threshold. | Makes your tickets count toward your squad's totals and averages, and qualifies you for its squad raffle pool when the squad earns a draw. |
Use /threshold show to check your squad's current requirement. If the squad has no minimum, you still need at least one ticket for Active Duty. The role is cleared when weekly tickets reset on Monday at 00:00 UTC and is earned again during the new week. The squad raffle uses the completed week's recorded eligibility, so this reset does not erase eligibility already recorded for that draw. See Squads for the current ways to win and the full weekly cycle.
Squad leadership
Leadership roles are earned through your squad's promotion and election process. Reaching an XP level does not automatically make you a Captain or Commander.
These roles have different responsibilities:
| Role | How you receive it | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Captain | Your Commander promotes you from the squad's members. | Recruits Nomads, starts a Commander election when the position is vacant, calls referendums, views the squad roster and relays squad announcements with /captain. |
| Commander | Win your squad's election as a Captain. The founder of a successful new squad also receives this role. | Leads the squad, recruits members, promotes and demotes Captains, and sets the weekly Active Duty ticket threshold or puts it to a squad vote. |
| Veteran | Retire as a Captain or Commander with /retire, or step down through a Captain demotion. | Recognizes previous squad leadership. It does not retain Captain or Commander powers, but it is included in qualifying supply drops and Veteran recognition posts. |
There is one Commander per squad. Squads can have up to three Captains regardless of size; additional Captain places require 10 squad members per Captain. Leaving a squad with /abandon also removes its leadership and Veteran roles.
For the full command guide, visit Squads in The Vault Discord.
Community responsibilities
These roles give members responsibilities beyond their own squad. They are separate from XP ranks and are assigned through community selection or application processes.
The bots support the following positions:
| Role | How to get involved | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Major | Ask the community team about becoming an event host. | Hosts community events, manages event attendance and uses /majors to access the event calendar and scheduler. |
| Prefect | Use /prefect to request your application link. Submitted applications can be reviewed by the Community Council. | Helps enforce community rules, reviews reports and manages the moderation and appeal process through the Prefect bot. Applying does not automatically grant the role. |
| Community Council | Each squad selects up to five representatives. See Community Council. | Reviews Prefect applicants through /council, votes on community proposals and considers appeals of moderation decisions. |
Current weekly role rewards are:
| Role | Credits | Raffle tickets | Quest scrolls |
|---|---|---|---|
| Major | 10,000 | 10 | 5 |
| Prefect | 5,000 | 5 | 3 |
| Community Council | 5,000 | 5 | 3 |
Major and Prefect rewards do not stack: a member with both receives the Major reward. Community Council rewards are separate and can be added to either one.
Supporter roles
Supporter roles qualify members for specific supply drops. Each drop states its eligible roles, entry instructions and prizes; holding a role makes you eligible, rather than guaranteeing a prize.
The current supporter roles used by the giveaway bot are:
| Role | How to get involved | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Server Booster | Boost The Vault Discord. | Receives Discord's Server Booster role and qualifies for booster supply drops. |
| Villionaire | Ask staff for the current qualification and verification requirements. | Qualifies for Villionaire supply drops. It is a separate role from the XP rank ladder. |
| OG Villionaire | Ask staff about this role's availability and requirements. | Is included alongside Villionaire in the configured Villionaire supply-drop eligibility. |
Games and notifications
These roles help you access games or follow the announcements that interest you. They do not replace your XP rank or squad membership.
The public roles used for these features are:
| Role | How to use it | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Gladiator | Use /gladiator to add or remove the role. | Opens the Colosseum and Arena channels and receives game signup reminders. Individual games still have their own level, entry and timing requirements. |
| vARMY | Hold this role to receive the community bots' vARMY mentions. Ask staff if you need help with role selection. | Receives community announcements such as rank highlights, games, artwork opportunities and governance updates. |
| Node News | Hold this role to receive Node News mentions. Ask staff if you need help with role selection. | Receives validator news and announcements such as Behind the Node and monthly board reviews. |
Validator roles
Validator roles identify your involvement in The Vault's validator community. They are separate from community XP ranks and squad leadership.
The validator bots use these roles:
| Role | How you receive it | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Validators | Start the validator application process in a support ticket, or ask staff to verify your validator details. | Identifies validator operators for validator communications and support. The application bot assigns the role when /apply starts successfully. Holding it does not mean your validator has been approved for stake. |
| Validator Board | Become a member of the Validator Board. | Uses /board to access the board's review and voting dashboard, with optional voting reminders. It is distinct from the Community Council. |
Prize roles
Prize roles show that the payment bot is handling a reward for you. They are temporary payment markers, rather than permanent ranks.
The two prize roles are:
| Role | How you receive it | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Winner | A qualifying USDC prize or payment is queued for you. | You have an active reward in the USDC payment queue. |
| vWinner | A qualifying vPoints prize or payment is queued for you. | You have an active reward in the vPoints payment queue. |
Register your Solana wallet with /wallet. Once a payment is claimable, you can use /claim inside a support ticket. The payment bot removes the corresponding role when you have no active payments left for that reward type.
For help with a missing role or the current requirements for a selected role, open a support ticket in The Vault Discord.
